Nurturing Faith, Uniting Nations, and Building Bridges
The scripture makes it clear that children are a heritage from the Lord and their gift in the church is a huge blessing. We have a wonderful children’s Sunday school program with excellent Sunday school teachers where children from the ages of 3 to 12 are taught and grounded in the Lord’s prayer and biblical stories. The preparation and teachings that are offered to the children help them to adjust easily to the adult service when they transition.
In addition, Deacon Lee makes it a point of duty to spend time with the children once a month where she avails them the opportunity to ask questions about the church, the liturgy and church life. it is always a joyous moment each time the Sunday school teachers walk up to the sanctuary with the children for communion. Adult members of the congregation are often thrilled by their energy, pump and quietude during the most solemn period in our liturgy.
In addition to the warmth and contributions of the children in the church, they all look forward to the annual Christmas pageant where they play roles and act as apostles, angels, mothers, father and disciples of Christ. .
Our outreach ministry is focused on refugees and asylum seekers through the wonderful partnership we have with our sister Church St Matthew’s Evanston.
The partnership with St Matthew’s is a gift from above aimed at serving God, building our communities and serving others. St Matthew’s is a predominantly white congregation while St Andrew’s Pentecost is predominantly black congregation. Through our partnership we are building bridges, creating opportunities for the groups to work together on projects, promoting unity, friendships, love for God and one another. Our primary goal is to create a model for other churches and especially, the society at large where healing from division and racism needs to happen.
